However, some effects may be quite variable ; a reduced deamination was not always observed (35). Furthermore, ionophores do not always behave similarly. Armstrong and Spears (40) reported that monensin initially suppressed serum-insulin concentrations while it was increased afterward. Growth hormone concentrations were suppressed. Lasalocid, however, did not affect hormone concentrations. Based on the afore-mentioned effects, we can expect improved animal performances. Table 3 gives a survey of the effect of antibiotics in beef cattle.
